Anointing of the Sick

​

The sacrament of the anointing of the sick is an extension of Christ’s own healing ministry. It can be celebrated in any location.  Contact our office about the scheduling of public celebrations.

Most parishes, care facilities, and hospitals have volunteers who will bring holy communion regularly to those who are unable to come to church for an extended period of time.

​

Last Rites

​

Preparation for death (the “last rites”) eases the way for Catholics about to enter into eternal life.  Note that this preparation, which is not the same as the anointing of the sick, can take place whenever the person is ready to receive it and is not restricted to the time immediately preceding death.  It is better for this preparation to take place when the person receiving it can understand and participate in the rites.

A Catholic priest is on duty 24 hours a day for every hospital in Santa Clara County.  If the need for a priest is immediate, you may get a quicker response by contacting the hospital staff or calling the answering service to request the priest on duty, especially if your own parish is far from the hospital.

​

While a priest cannot administer the “last rites” to persons who have already died, he can bless the body of the deceased and lead the family members in prayer, if they wish.

Unción de los Enfermos

​

El sacramento de la unción de los enfermos es una extensión del propio ministerio de sanación de Cristo. Se puede celebrar en cualquier lugar. Póngase en contacto con nuestra oficina sobre la programación de las celebraciones públicas.

 

La mayoría de las parroquias, centros de cuidado y hospitales tienen voluntarios que traerán sagrada comunión regularmente a aquellos que no pueden venir a la iglesia por un período prolongado de tiempo.

 

Extremaunción

 

Preparación para la muerte (los "últimos ritos") facilita el camino para los católicos a punto de entrar en la vida eterna. Tenga en cuenta que esta preparación, que no es la misma que la unción de los enfermos, puede tener lugar cuando la persona está lista para recibirla y no está restringida al tiempo inmediatamente anterior a la muerte. Es mejor que esta preparación tenga lugar cuando la persona que la recibe pueda entender y participar en los ritos.

 

Un sacerdote católico está de servicio las 24 horas del día para cada hospital en el condado de Santa Clara. Si la necesidad de un sacerdote es inmediata, puede obtener una respuesta más rápida contactando al personal del hospital o llamando al servicio de contestador para pedir al sacerdote de guardia, especialmente si su propia parroquia está lejos del hospital. Mientras un sacerdote no puede administrar los "últimos ritos" a las personas que ya han muerto, puede bendecir el cuerpo del fallecido y conducir a los miembros de la familia en oración, si así lo desean.
